Math By: Miss Yates This week in math we prepared for our PSSA testing in a variety of ways. We have taken time to go back and review concepts that we have not seen in a long time! We have also been working on practice questions so that we know exactly what to expect when taking the test next week. Often times, it does not come as naturally to explain our answers in words during math class. We have especially focused on how we can show our work and also explain the work we did well. We are keeping our skills fluent and sharp by playing review games on MobyMax and working towards our April All Stars challenge at the same time! Students had to track the movement of soil and the speed of the run-off. We discussed where and how water wears away and deposits soil. Connections were made between fast moving water and erosion (wearing away and moving soil) with slow-moving water and deposition (dropping off soil). The students were excited to see what a delta looks like up close, as we learned that deposited sediment often forms into a triangular or bowshaped form (delta). Did you know that the Mississippi River carries about 836,000+ TONS of sediment into the Gulf of Mexico? Wow! Next, we are on to reading and learning about glaciers and erosion caused by them.
