POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Senior Systems Administrator Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional K (TS) JOB SUMMARY: Manage all server systems activities district wide to include system design, installation/configuration, operation, performance, maintenance, and analysis. Serve as a lead for projects pertaining to different systems to include collaboration with database administrators and programmers. YEARLY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: PERCENT OF TIME 1. Manage and supervise the work of others, oversee multiple in-house projects for the 20% district, and coordinate work with departments. Act as a project leader in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed. Plan and implement server upgrades and vendor-supplied patches for systems supporting students, faculty, and staff. 2. Provide timely response to customer problems; serve as the lead person for troubleshooting escalated server issues and systems issues. 15% 3. Manage enterprise Microsoft (MS) Active Directory, MS Exchange, MS Structured Query Language (SQL), Cluster services and support server infrastructure. Responsible for Data Center Operations. Manage projects and system operations that support the college’s Microsoft Server environment, including enhancements. 15% 4. Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure servers are hardened and secure. Carry out system performance and security audits. Participate in managing all network security solutions, including antivirus and anti-spam software, and system monitoring software. Manage software licenses and maintain appropriate documentation. 15% 5. Perform, monitor, and test system backups and data recovery throughout the organization. Oversee Storage Area Network (SAN) hardware design, implementation, and configuration. 15% 6. Develop strategies for client/server implementations; build the infrastructure required to support those strategies. Lead, coordinate, and participate in key process improvements as they relate to the client/server environment. Conduct research on server hardware, software, and protocols in support of procurement and development efforts. 10% 7. Coordinate and collaborate with Executive Director, Network Systems and Support Services to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate systems to meet business demands. 5% 8. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Experience managing all enterprise security solutions including anti-virus and anti-spam software and system monitoring software; Experience performing, monitoring, and testing systems backups and data recovery; Experience carrying out system performance and security audits; Documented knowledge of Windows 2008/2003 Server, Terminal Server, Remote Assistance, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft (MS) Exchange, MS Structured Query Language (SQL), MS Internet Information Services (IIS-Web). MS System Management Server (SMS), MS Shell scripting, Visual Basic (VB) script, MS Visual Basic, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and MS Hyper-V; Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all types of server hardware, associated network equipment, and using server performance tuning and monitoring tools; Effective organizational, conflict resolution, interpersonal, communication (both written and oral) skills, and be highly self-motivated, directed, and detail-oriented; Effective management and supervisory skills to lead a team in a multi-tasking environment; Experience with a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software in addition to data recovery software, UNIX/Linux software, server operating system software, Anti-Virus software and Network/Server management software tools.
