All rights reserved Day 6 & 7 of 10 Page 5 JOB SHADOWING TIPS DURING THE JOB SHADOWING EXPERIENCE - Dress as if you’re going to a job interview --- PROFESSIONALLY - Be sure to let the person you’re shadowing know how much you appreciate the opportunity - Arrive on time, be polite, courteous, and enthusiastic! - Don’t be afraid to ask questions—just remember to be respectful of their privacy - Try to meet as many other employees as possible to get a feel of the atmosphere - Observe everything…from technology used to dress codes! - Pay attention to how most communication is conducted (via email? in person? by memo?) - Try to stay “out of the way” as much as possible - DO NOT TALK OR TEXT ON YOUR CELL PHONE - Take as many notes as possible - Ask for the person’s business card before you leave AFTER THE JOB SHADOWING EXPERIENCE - Be sure to write a thank you note to the person you shadowed - Compile your notes into a two page report - Bring the thank you note and report to class the next day - Be prepared to discuss your experiences with the rest of the class Copyright © Texas Education Agency, 2014.
