Corequisites (edited): SPED 49525 Registration is by special approval only: No Content Information Variable Contact Hours: 280-560 Description: Student teaching experience: full time, 16 week experience for 9-credit course. In addition, approximately 1 hour per day is spent on activities such as: parent conferences, meetings, school activities, lesson plans, edTPA, etc. Occasionally, post-undergraduate students who are not getting licensure with graduate coursework take this course for 4 credits. Time spent is basically half that of a 9-credit experience. Textbook(s) used in this course: None Writing Expectations: lesson plans, edTPA, newsletters, website postings Instructor(s) expected to teach: Director of Clinical Field Experience Instructor(s) contributing to content: James Knapp Proposal Summary Explain the purpose for this proposal: The purpose of this proposal is to update the credit hours, contact hours, description, content outline, writing expectations, and instructor information to reflect the way it is taught. The contact hours surpass the revised University guidelines ["One credit hour is awarded for a minimum three clock hours (180 minutes) in a standard week of a 15-week semester, or for a minimum 45 clock hours (2,700 minutes) in a semester"]. In this 9 credit course, a student spends 40 hours per week for 16 weeks in the school setting. The expectations also consist of normal responsibilities of a classroom teacher that my occur outside of regular class time, such as: attend meetings, grade papers, planning and preparation, etc. The student teaching component is a minimum of 480 hours per semester, wit an additional 1 hour per week spent on out-of-class responsibliities. This is reflected in the revised contact hours and content outline. When a post-undergraduate student, who is not getting licensure with graduate coursework takes this course, it is for 4 credits and is basically half the time as 9 credits. For that reason, the credit hours are revised from a variable 4-9 credit to a 4 OR 9 credit course. Explain how this proposal affects program requirements and students in your unit: The ASL-English Interpreting Concentration (SPED ASEI) currently uses this course for their practicum experience. However, they do not student teach. Consequently, ASEI is revising their program requirements to remove this course and add a course that meets their own needs. There will be no other impact, as the revisions bring course information up to date to reflect what is being done. Explain how this proposal affects courses, program requirements and student in other units: No impact. Explain how this proposal affects enrollment and staffing: No impact.
