Proposal Summary
Explain the purpose for this proposal:
The purpose of this proposal is to revise the credits, contact hours, content, corequisites, textbook, writing expectations,
and instructor information. The contact hours conform to the revised University guidelines ["One credit hour is awarded for
a minimum three clock hours (180 minutes) in a standard week of a 15-week semester, or for a minimum 45 clock hours
(2,700 minutes) in a semester"]. This course is being reduced from 12 to 10 credits to accommodate the heavy course load
required of students in the Health & Physical Education double licensure programs. In addition to this course, students have
to take two 3-credit inquiry seminar courses during their final semester. They also have the extra financial burden of taking
the Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA), the new state-required assessment of student teaching performance. The
additional tuition overload for an 18-credit semester can be overwhelming. By reducing this student teaching course to 10
credits, students avoid the overload fee. This student teaching experience requires approximately 45 hours spent each week
(675 total) working both in a school setting and in preforming out-of-class activities such as planning, preparation, etc. that
are required in this experience. The description and prerequisites are revised to include a background check, which is
required of all student teaching courses.
