National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) at Eastern Michigan University BYLAWS I. Membership a. Open to all full and/or part-time undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing Speech Language Pathology or Hearing Impaired Education as a profession. b. May be obtained at the beginning of fall and winter semesters by filling our a membership application. c. Dues are $10 per year. d. A member is eligible to vote, be elected as an officer for the following year, and serve on committees. e. To promote participation, the following levels of membership will also be available: i. Active Member = 6 event points and attendance to at least 8 meetings per academic year. ii. Supportive Member = 4 points and attendance to at least 6 meetings per academic year. iii. Moderate Member = 2 points and attendance to at least 4 meetings per academic year. f. Points can be obtained by attending Social Events or Fundraising Events. i. One event = 1 point. g. Multiple events of the same type are allowable. h. Attendance to events and points earned will be recorded by NSSLHA officers i. The attendance sheet at each event must be signed by the participating members for the point to register II. Meetings a. Held twice per week in the first and third weeks of each month during the fall and winter semester b. Located in the clinic classroom unless announced otherwise via bulletin board posting and emails. c. Times will be chosen for convenience based on SPHI and SPSI classes and will be consistent within a given semester. d. For applicable decisions, a majority vote at the two meetings combined will be required for action to be taken e. Officers will meet with the advisor twice per month. III. Officers a. The NSSLHA Executive Board will be elected from the pool of volunteers each April at the last meeting of the winter semester, effective immediately. b. Officers of the chapter shall consist of: i. President ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. viii. ix. 1. Run meetings, prepare agendas, manage calendar, delegate tasks, keep members informed of NSSLHA related issues either through email or postings, and other tasks as assigned. Vice President 1. Presidential duties in absence of president, organization of speakers, and other tasks as assigned. Treasurer 1. Collect checks and work with advisor to organize payments of dues and purchases by NSSLHA, and other tasks as assigned. Secretary 1. Keep meeting minutes and attendance, manage NSSLHA binder, prepare thank you cards or gifts for speakers, and other tasks as assigned. Service Coordinator 1. Coordinate and delegate service projects, coordinate social/networking opportunities, and other tasks as assigned. Public Relations 1. Plan vision for facebook effectiveness, prepare handouts, and other tasks as assigned. Undergraduate Advocate 1. Research ways to help undergraduates, announce upcoming deadlines & obtain undergraduate feedback, and other tasks as assigned. Mechandise Coordinator 1. Organize the purchase of merchandise, promote sales, and organize member orders of our NSSLHA chapter merchandise and apparel, and other tasks as assigned. Other board members as the chapter sees fit IV. Committees a. Committees will consist of one chairperson and at least 2 members b. Committees could include, but are not limited to: i. Fundraising ii. Guest Speakers iii. Community Service iv. Social Activities c. Committee chairs and members shall be volunteer positions d. Committee chairs will be responsible for informing the president of committee activities V. Chapter Advisor a. The chapter shall have at least one advisor who is a faculty or staff member in the academic program. b. The Chapter Advisor shall be a member of ASHA. VI. Bylaws can be amended by majority vote of the active executive board
