Staff Responds to Latta Park Creek Pollution
Charlotte, North Carolina – Around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water
Services staff responded to a call from the public regarding possible pollution in a creek at Latta Park
(601 East Park Avenue). When staff arrived they discovered that the creek water was a grayish-white
color.
Staff is currently investigating the source of the pollution. Initial testing suggests that the pollution is not
toxic to the environment. However, Storm Water Services is monitoring conditions in the creek and any
effect on aquatic life.
When residents see pollution in creeks or lakes, or see illegal dumping into a storm drain, they are
reminded to call 311 or use the new Water Watchers app to report what they see. Storm Water Services
staff will respond and investigate the report.
