National e-Science Centre Geology-Grid Meeting and Clinton Foster Visit e-Science Institute 20th August 03 Clinton Foster is a Group Leader in the Petroleum Promotion and Specialist Studies Group of Geoscience Australia (www.ga.gov.au). He visited NeSC to find out more about e-Science, particularly as it applies to geological survey studies, and to establish links between the two organisations. This visit arose from a recommendation by Anne Trefethen of the UK e-Science Core Programme directorate. NeSC gave several short presentations. Dave Berry (Research Manager of NeSC) spoke about NeSC and data-driven e-Science. Martin Westhead (EPCC) described the OGSA-DAI middleware. Mike Mineter (University of Edinburgh School of Geography) spoke about spatial data and GIS. Finally, James Reid (EDINA UK Data Library) presented some of the Geographical services that EDINA offers. Much stimulating discussion occurred throughout. We will explore possibilities of future co-operation. Dave Berry Research Manager NeSC
