Proceedings of 10th Asia - Pacific Business and Humanities Conference 22 - 23 February 2016, Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ISBN: 978-1-925488-00-5 Workplace Ostracism and Turnover Intention: A Moderated Mediation Model of Job Stress and Gender Koon Vui-Yee* and Tee Yen-Hwa** The workplace ostracism study is advanced by a joint investigation of the mediating role of (a) job stress in linking turnover intention with ostracism in the workplace and (b) the moderating role of gender in influencing the mediation. The conversation of resources (COR) theory was used in this research for further discussion on workplace ostracism, job stress and turnover intention. The conceptual model and defined hypotheses were tested with a sample of 144 employees employed in services industry in Malaysia. A quantitative approach using SmartPLS 3.0 was used to examine the standard error of the estimate, t-values and the multiple group analysis. The findings suggest that workplace ostracism was significantly related to job stress and turnover intention. Job stress played the role as the mediating variable in the relationship. Interestingly, gender does not moderate the relationship between workplace ostracism, job stress and turnover intentions. This study provided the awareness of necessity in creating an inclusive working culture to avoid the occurrence of workplace ostracism.
