Proceedings of 13th Asian Business Research Conference 26 - 27 December, 2015, BIAM Foundation, Dhaka, Bangladesh, ISBN: 978-1-922069-93-1 Dealing with Autistic Children: A Qualitative Inquest into Parents’ Perspectives Nadia Jahan Chowdhury, Fatema Ahmed, Sanjib Mazumder and Md. Shifat Uddin Thakur Autism, as yet, is not-so-common a phenomenon affecting the children born and raised in Bangladesh. However, those diagnosed with this malady not only have a stunted growth in their mental faculties, their presence in a family often has a debilitating impact on the normal lifestyles of their parents. This qualitative research is an attempt to portray their feelings and experiences; for this purpose, a total of eight respondents had participated through interviews, each lasting, on average, about forty minutes. The findings shed light on the agonies of such parents, who remain preoccupied by looking after their autistic children. The paper concludes with a few recommendations vis-à-vis the responsibility of the society in nurturing these children. A few areas of future research works is also suggested in this regard. _____________________________________________________________________ Nadia Jahan Chowdhury, Fatema Ahmed, Sanjib Mazumder, Md.
