Poetry—Second Place
Wyatt Reese
What Now?
I have eternally lived to please you.
Solely to make you happy with me.
This is the reason for all that I do.
The only reason that I have to be.
Like your dogs, I exist only to please.
I do what you ask, and ask no reward.
I attempt to give you a life of ease.
Your goals are all I try to move toward.
Now you say to do whatever I want.
What do I want to do, though? What indeed?
Even the idea just seems a taunt.
What is my purpose, now that I am freed?
Drifting through my life, without a reason,
Since upsetting you would be like treason.
