CABT 110C: Speed Development
Instructions
To receive a Pass (P) for the course, you need to:
1. Correctly log in with your name and course name using the Keyboarding Pro software in the CTC (it
is also possible to purchase software for use with your home PC).
2. Complete required Skill Building lessons as listed on your progress sheet, turning in reports after
each section.
3. Complete Timed Writings 5 – 19, meeting speed and accuracy goals for each section, as indicated
on your progress sheet. Turn in required Timed Writings Reports.
4. Complete in-lab final in presence of Instructor of three 5-minute timings. Minimum speed achieved
must be 40 WAM or higher with 1 error per minute (maximum of 5 errors).
DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR FINGERS OR KEYS WHILE KEYBOARDING
This is a requirement to pass the course
 See handouts in the CTC for how to log on to the computers and load your keyboarding program.
 More detailed software reference instructions are available in the lab from your instructor.
 Follow the instructions below and refer to your Student Progress Sheet (over) to guide you through
your work.
1. Press the space bar only once at the end of a sentence. The backspace key is allowed. Do not
type the hyphens that divide words at the end of a line.
2.
Begin lessons: Load Keyboarding Pro. Click on “Skill Building,” click “Accuracy Emphasis,” select
Lesson B. Follow screen instructions to complete Lessons B and D. Print Skill Building report (from
“Reports” menu at upper left corner of screen) to turn in to your instructor.
3. Complete 3- and 5-minute Timed Writings, plus assessments, listed on the Student Progress Sheet.
You must meet speed and accuracy goals for section before moving on to the next. REMEMBER TO
CHANGE THE LENGTH OF TIMED WRITINGS FROM 3 MINUTES TO 5 MINUTES IN THE TIMED
WRITING SELECTION WINDOW BEGINNING WITH WRITING 8.
4. When indicated on your progress sheet, print Timed Writings reports to turn in to your instructor.
Click on “Reports” in upper left corner of screen, then click “Timed Writings.” Scroll through pages by
clicking on right arrow at top of screen. Click on “Print” and “OK”.
5. Continue working through the Skill Building Lessons, Timed Writings and Assessments listed on your
progress sheet. Ask for help and coaching from your instructor if you feel you are not making good
progress.
6. Check with your Instructor to make sure you have completed all work and that your speed is
consistently reaching your goal. Take the final (3 timed writings) as directed by your Instructor to be
completed in his/her presence in the lab.
7. You must turn in at least one performance record printout by WEEK 11 or you may be
dropped from the course.
All work, reports, and 3 final timed writings must be completed BEFORE Cabrillo finals week.
