Course Description
CABT 110B is an intermediate keyboarding class covering the alphabet, number and symbol keys, and 10-key
numeric keypad, designed for the student already who touch-types 25 words per minute (wpm). It is a self-paced
class. While there are no regular class meetings, students need to work 1.5 hours a week or more, practicing
several times a week, in order to pass this course. This course uses college-level keyboarding software.
Course Requirements
Students must be able to complete lessons and timed writings at a speed of at least 30 words per minute (wpm)
with no more than 1 error per minute (epm) by the end of this course. You must attend an in-person orientation,
turn in required printed reports, and take the final timed writings on campus. If you feel that you have special
needs, please contact the Accessibility Support Center (formerly DSPS) early in the semester at 479-6379.
Grades
This .5 unit class (½ of a unit) is offered for a Pass/No Pass grade. To pass, you must do all of the following:
1. Complete the assigned portions of Lessons 14-25 in Keyboarding Pro, meeting the speed and accuracy
goals for each block of lessons. (See the Progress Sheet for details.)
2. Complete the assigned Timed Writings for each level, meeting the speed and accuracy goals.
3. Turn in printed reports for Summary Lessons 1-25 and Timed Writings as required.
4. Complete the Numeric Keypad Exercises 1-4 twice each in Keyboarding Pro with an average speed of 150
keystrokes per minute. (kspm) Print and turn in a report of this work—see us if you have questions.
5. Pass the Final Exam: Key 30 wpm with 1 epm or less on three (3) three-minute timed writings assigned by
your instructor. Note: You may not look at your fingers while keyboarding.
IMPORTANT: All work must be turned in and final timed writings completed before finals week.
Incomplete Grades, Drop for Lack of Progress, and Withdrawal Policy
Instructors may assign Incomplete (I) grades only if you have completed 75% of the course work to passing
standards, and illness or emergency prevents you from completing the course. You must turn in at least lessons
14-16 by week 11 or you may be dropped from the course. If you wish to receive a Withdraw (W) grade, it is your
responsibility to officially withdraw by the 12th week of the semester. Please see us if you have questions.
Student Learning Outcome: Accurately and efficiently enter alphabetic text, numbers, and extended characters
using the touch technique, reaching the goal of 30 wpm in three-minute timed writings with one epm or less. Accurately use
the 10-key numeric keypad on the computer keyboard to enter data and perform calculations.
