To receive a Pass (P) for the course, you need to:
Correctly log in with your name and course name to KeyboardingPro .
Complete Lessons 1-10 in KeyboardingPro and turn in required Summary Reports.
Clock in to CABT 210 each time you log in to work on your Keyboarding lessons in the CTC; your
hours will be counted in the “arranged hours” database, hours of practice must total at least 25 by
the end of the semester. Check in with your instructor or Lab Instructional Assistant periodically.
Complete Timed Writings, showing a minimum of 10 words per minute with no more than 1 error
per minute. See your instructor or Lab Instructional Assistant for assistance with Timed Writings
YOU MAY NOT LOOK AT YOUR FINGERS OR KEYS WHILE KEYBOARDING
This is a requirement to pass the course
See handouts in the lab for how to log on to the computers and load your keyboarding program.
Follow the instructions below and refer to your Student Progress Sheet to guide you.
(Note: Do not do the “Textbook Keying” or “Timed Writing” exercises using the textbook.)
Lessons 1, 1R, 2, 3 and 4:
1. Log into KeyboardingPro (see Instructions):
2. Click on “Lessons” tab, then click on lesson 1 ; follow screen instructions
3. Notice that lesson 1 has eight sections (drop-down list at upper right): “Learn Home Row, Learn
Enter and Space, Practice Home Row, Textbook Keying, Learn i, Improve Keystroking, Build Skill,
and Lesson Report.” Complete all sections except for the “Textbook Keying” and “Timed Writing”
exercises. All other exercises can be completed without the textbook. Do not print “Lesson
Reports.” As you complete each exercise, the program automatically moves to the next section
(completed exercises are indicated by a green checkmark). For practice, you will need to repeat
the entire lesson a 2nd time.
4. “Repeat this exercise?, strike Y or N” appears at the end of each section: If you have not learned
the letters without looking at the keys or your fingers, repeat the exercise until you feel you
have learned properly. You may repeat the exercises as many times as needed.
5. After completing Lesson 2, print out a Summary Lessons 1-25 Report and turn it in to your
instructor. Note that the summary report is not the same as a Lesson Report. You do not have to
print out or turn in a Lesson Report. To print out a Summary Report: 1) Click the Report Menu at
the top of the screen. 2)Click Summary Lessons 1-25 Report. 3)Click the Print button, then OK.
6. Complete Timed Writing 2b lines 11-14, p. 7 after completing Lesson 2. See below “How to
Complete Timed Writings.” ASK FOR HELP!
7. Complete Timed Writing 4c, p. 11 after completing Lesson 4.
8. After completing Lesson 4, print out a Summary Lessons 1-25 Report and turn it in to your
instructor.
Lessons 5-10 8, 9, and 10:
Keyboarding Pro: Complete all sections twice except for “Textbook Keying” and “Timed Writing”.
Complete 2- minute Timed Writings and Turn in a Keyboarding Pro Summary Lessons 1-25
Report after Lessons 6, 8, and 10
To Finish the Class: Check with your Instructor to make sure you have completed all work, and are
consistently keying at least 10 WAM. Show the instructor your Lesson 10 Timed Writing to verify you
are at 10 WAM or higher with no more than 1 EPM.
Everything must be done BEFORE finals week.
How to complete Timed Writings.
1. From the main menu, select Timed Writings.
2. Select the required timed writing.
3. Select one or two minutes.
4. Make sure there is no checkmark in the
“backspace allowed” box.
5. Repeat each timed writing until you achieve the
goal of 10+ words per minute, with no more than
1 error per minute.
6. Turn in the “40 Timed Writings” report from the
Reports menu (see Instructor for help).
