RP Group Options 1 and 2 for the campus-wide Student Equity Convening (May 1, 10-1, featuring Dr. Darla Cooper of the Research and Planning Group for California Community Colleges) were discussed and option 1 was chosen for its smaller group size and more in-depth questions. Natalia will be contacting students directly to invite them to the focus group. Everyone is encouraged to attend, including community members. Another “all” email with an invitation will be sent. The focus group activity will continue annually. Counselor positions interviews are being held this week; The Veterans/Foster Youth coordinator position has been split: the Foster Youth coordinator position is being advertised and the Veterans coordinator position has been reassigned to Flor Chacon. Jennifer reported on the pilot program for math placement of south county high school students using assessment vs. using high school grades and multiple measures. $5000 has been budgeted for stipends for this program. Integration of Efforts (SE, SSSP, Basic Skills) Joseph, Dennis Math Plus -- two week-long sessions: June 15 and August 17; students must be enrolled in a summer or fall class; program needs to be advertised, especially to students not enrolled currently in a math class or coming from high school. Funds are budgeted for teachers, food, assorted supplies, and teaching assistants. During the lunch break, students will receive information from a counselor. Joseph asked that all the separate college efforts be pooled for efficiency and to reduce overlap and save money. A crosswalk for professional development resources will be created, as will a spreadsheet with each committee’s information. Meeting Summary or Take Away: 1.
