1) Identify and remodel classroom large
enough to accommodate department
course needs. Improve technological
resources within room.
XX
HS has lost its classroom in the 800 building (remodel) and
has moved primarily to Room 514. However, they do not have
a permanent room at this time.
There are some perks and some problems with 514. The white
board is great. The computer and projector are good.
However, it is a smaller classroom with soundproofing
issues—due to a door and poor insulation in one wall. At
times sounds from the adjoining classrooms make it difficult to
teach. The entire wall needs sound proofing. There are a
number of broken chairs. Good chairs are often missing.
2) Launch Community Health Worker
Certificate Program
The program has been put on hold due to budget restrictions.
3) Offer HS 24--Environmental Health
using existing departmental tus
XX
HS has used 3 tu’s normally allotted for one of our HS 10
classes to fund the class. It was offered in Sp12 and F12 with
much success. The department plans on continuing to offer
this class.
The one challenge: finding a suitable textbook. The existing
one is good but challenging.

4) Update curriculum resources--A/v,
Posters, Books, DVD's
One HS adjunct faculty person has agreed to attend the Sp13
Flex activity in the library to update library resources and
remove outdated material.

4) cont.
A list of new resources was developed in Sp12 and updated in
F12. Plans are to order posters and DVD’s in Sp13 pending
the availability of funds.
5) Hire full-time Contract Faculty
Instructor
This goal has been tabled for now given the existing budget
challenges.

SLO Assessment Progress: In a sentence or two, describe where your department should be on the Revolving Wheel of Assessment (what
assessment you should have done in the last year) and what was actually done. If not every thing was completed, explain why.
Currently the HS department is following the agreed upon calendar. In Sp12 the department discussed the process for assessing HS 10’s SLO.
The assessment, conducted in F12 was reviewed and discussed in our final Fall faculty meeting. We discussed the next step, setting up
assessments for the two SLO’s in HS 12 which will be conducted in Sp13.
Fill out the Assessment Results section below.

Please see below.
In the Next Steps in the Classroom section:
o State criteria for grading more explicitly
A sample presentation is available on blackboard and specific criteria of the assignment are discussed with the class in regards to the sample. The
grading rubric is available on blackboard and the rubric is discussed prior to the presentation. Furthermore,
o Ask a colleague to critique assignments/activities
The students use the grading rubric to critique the instructor’s presentation on addiction, but also to familiarize themselves with the rubric that
will be used during their team presentations for peer review.
Collect more data
The instructor is continuing to collect these assignments. So far, students have demonstrated greater understanding of integrating resources into
the powerpoint presentation, a few are even using APA formatting correctly! The reference pages are also growing and more reliable. One thing
that has not improved is the integration of an interactive activity for the class- many of the presentations have no activity whatsoever.
In the Next Step in the Department section:
o Offer/encourage attendance at seminars, workshops or discussion groups about teaching methods
The instructor has continued to participate in FLEX activities focused on teaching methods.
o Consult teaching and learning experts about teaching methods
o The instructor has attended the ACE faculty training (a week long training on teaching methods)
o Encourage faculty to share activities that foster competency
o The instructor shared the team group assessment with colleagues for use in their classes.
