Community College League of California Conference Info. / Action A. Cornett
10 Minutes
This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the approval of $4,600.00 from the ___ Account
for the Community College League of California conference being held on January 27th and 28th.
• Aimee moves to approve $3,500 from the leadership and conference line item from the 71
account to fund the CCLC conference. seconded by Devin.
• Those who are potentially going are Aimee, Laura, Sharon, Joseph, and Devin. But anyone who
wishes to go may submit their names for consideration. It will probably be about $700 a person
for the whole conference plus travel expenses. This amount includes the dinner we sponsor for
the assemblyman and senators at the end of the conference.
• Sesario strongly suggests using money from the restricted 72 account since this is the perfect
place to use this money and it can be used only for things like this. However Darwin notes that
there is only $1,700 in the 72 account.
• We will be driving in a school van to the conference in Sacramento.
• Joseph highlighted the benefits of going to this conference because we meet with career
politicians who are actually enacting legislature, and get to make connections and attend
workshops. This is probably the most important conference we will be involved in this year with
regards to lobbying district representatives and directly representing our students.
• Carter moves to amend the motion to approve $1,700 from the 72 student rep fee account
and approve $1,800 from the 71 leadership and conferences account for the Community.
Seconded by Nadine. Amendment passes 15/1/0.
• Main motion passes 15/1/0

people.
• Guest speaker Reverend Deborah Johnson from inner light ministries will deliver the invocation.
The message she will bring is positive, and will apply to everyone on campus. The scholarship

• Last year $2,008 was spent on the MLK event.
• Professor Omasupe will be leading the spoken word
• $4000 will be broken down by
o food for 250 for about $2,000,
o renting out the hall for $500,

Joseph
liked having in the quad because students walked past and stopped to listen, etc. and by
•
having the recital hall much more advertisement will be needed. Abby says it will be important
for the PR committee to work very closely with the MLK committee. Include Kristan Fabos in
this to further the publicity.

Executive Officers, Senators, Advisers report on Senate Activities.
A. Executive Officers
President: Charlotte Achen: You can collect a lot for Second Harvest in one class! Finding parking
meters that work is very difficult, I had to walk all around the parking lot and then go talk to the Sheriff
before getting a proper ticket. This would make parking legally very difficult for new students who don't

very least address it.

Laura who sat at the Cabrillo farmers market this past weekend and raised over $700!
Joseph Watkins: I'm part of the Walnut Ave. Women shelter and if you have things like second harvest

Natacha Wells: Absent
Tabitha Mahoney: Absent
Dieter Schmidtmeier: I've been getting a vibe from the senate that culminated in the outburst today. I
don't think it is ever too late to work with someone cause her head is in the right place but the way the
senate does things may exasperate the situation.
C. Advisors
5 minutes ea.
Sesario Escoto: budget committee should anticipate the increase in revenue, elections committee you
need to get started and get your timeline set but before the semester ends like when your going to release
the results.
Flor Chacòn: Thanksgiving is next week, sign up and help out! Go Tana and Laura for raising so much
money for second harvest! For the sac event, we are going to go about promoting the next round of
auditions a bit differently to ensure student participation. Don't expect the ICC to fund events that the
senate is sponsoring and supporting. If you want to have them involved, consult your advisors first. Keep
relationships professional. Don't gossip. Don't do it. If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at
all. If you don't have anything positive to say, keep it all to yourself. You are all a team - you need to
work together. Don't try to resolve personal conflicts among yourselves. Go to your advisors or the
professionals on campus that can help you with conflict resolution.
