NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Cabrillo College Student Senate will hold a meeting on Thursday March 14th, 2013. The meeting time and
location information is noted on the agenda. The purpose of this meeting is to be the direct representation of Cabrillo College’s Student Body. We
will see to it that the student’s best interests are being served and that the students are given the opportunity to be heard. If you have any questions,

A. Social Justice Conference

This item is up for discussion regarding the upcoming Social Justice Conference on Saturday, April 20 th.

Social Justice Conference website has details regarding programs, activities, event workshops, lunch reception etc.


The Conference will take place on April 20, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The community fair and light lunch will be held from 12:05 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Registration will be done at the 400 building.

The main conference will consist of 6, 45-minute block sessions.

The closing ceremony will be accompanied with a journal reception to meet authors and editors.

DJ and entertainment will close the conference at the Cafeteria, courtesy of Jennifer Cadenas.

Childcare will be available.

This item is up for discussion regarding the bookstore being under the new management of Barnes & Noble.

Linda Cullens is the new store manager.

Linda has experience working in college bookstores for over 30 years.

The bookstore will be transitioning over spring break, April 1 – 7, 2013.

The Cabrillo College bookstore will open as Barnes & Noble on April 8, 2013.

New furniture and options for textbook rentals will be available.

More than 50% of textbook titles will be available for rent, which will be a new feature for Cabrillo students.

Another new feature will be that textbook buybacks will be done year round.

In terms of social media, the Barnes & Noble bookstore will offer flash sales and promotions on it’s Facebook page.

of banners to promote the Alert-U program at the Sheriff's office, library, Watsonville Center, Bookstore etc.

Alert-U is similar to a mobile app that alerts students about current safety measures.

6 Informational Banners would cost $600.00

$200.00 is also being requested for tabling incentives.

Locations for Alert-U banners have not been chosen yet.

In terms of banner quality and durability, we’ve found the best in Santa Cruz.

Starfish Device for Aptos

starfish device for the Aptos campus.

As we discussed last week, Cabrillo College students, at both Watsonville and Aptos campuses, will benefit
from stronger communication equipment.

The Senate has been using a Cabrillo College ‘s department star fish up to now, so it’s time that the Senate
purchase a star fish device for clubs and senate use.

Purchasing a star fish device for the SAC East building will ensure that students can access the
teleconference equipment at a greater convenience.

Aptos campus.

New Canopies

canopies.

The Senate has always had 8 canopies for ICC and Senate use.

The Senate currently has 4.

The proposed canopies are the same type as the ones we already have.

Sears offers the best price at $89.00 per canopy, not including tax.

In terms of canopy preservation, instructional “How To Use” phamplets should be attached to canopies, so
that when students check them out they will know to use them and avoid damages.

This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the approval of several changes being made to the ASCC Student Senate
Budget.

A new Senate Budget will not be approved yet.

The Cafeteria renovations have exceeded the current budget, so we are considering changing next years
budget.

The cafeteria floor is not in good condition and it is important that the floors be redone.

The cafeteria floors have not been redone in 50 years.

There is currently $280,000 in the 73 Capital Outlay Account so including funds from reserves would be
enough funds for the $580,000.

The last day to send the Business Office a budget will be April 25, 2013.

H. Student Senate Polo Shirts

This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the Student Senate Polo Shirts.

Two quotes were passed around denoting prices for two polo embroidery styles.

Both options include prices for a total of 18 polo’s.

The first option has embroidery on the front and on the back for a total of $270.00.

The second option has embroidery on the front chest which totals $180.00.

Both options will help increase Senate Awareness on campus.

Currently there is $296.00 allocated to this item, so both options are within the budget.

Polo’s serve as a means for constituents to know that senators have a role as leaders on campus.

In terms of wording consider either: ASCC Student Senator, or, CC Student Senator.

Also consider: Student Senator with the Cabrillo College logo could on the front of the polo, and on the back


The Forum Event can be held either at the Watsonville or Aptos campus.

The Senate should hold a forum event before next weeks meeting at the Watsonville Campus.

The Forum Event could start at 2:30 p.m.

The event can entertain student concerns and current issues such as what the Senate is and how they serve
students.

Executive Officers, Senators, Advisers report on Senate Activities.
A. Executive Officers
President: Charlotte Achen – Please make sure that after an event you store items, and don’t leave them in senate offices. For
example, the popcorn machine was left in the senate offices for a few weeks! Also, a student called in today regarding the
excessive amounts of cigarette buts littered on the grounds in the student parking lots. Someone please follow up with this issue.

Treasurer: Darwin Constantino – Tonight there is honors Cabrillo Reads from 7 – 9 p.m. in Room 450
Legislative Representative: Aimée Cornett – Please attend the SAC Event.
Student Trustee: Cedar Green
Inter-Club Council Chair: Devin Monahan – ICC met yesterday and approved $200.00 for club events. Also, new clubs have
chartered.
Watsonville Representative: Abbygale González

B. Senators-at-Large

Bobby Buckter – Dig In is happening from 10 – 2 p.m. at the Horticulture Center. Also, FOOD CO-OP meets Monday 11 – 3 p.m.
Tana Desandres – Student surveys were passed out at the Watsonville Welcome Week event, and feedback has been worked on. Food
options were a topic that students spoke about, hopefully some dialogue about this can be done.
Carter Frost – The Presidential Search Committee will have at least 2 forum events that will be open to students and faculty to ask
candidates questions. Please participate, as questions are key points for committee members to work off of. Also, please send me your
office hours so I can arrange fax machine hours.

Rory Schneider – The Sportsmanship first club meeting will be next week on Monday at 1 p.m.

Sesario Escoto – I want to emphasize that committees have critical work to do such as the Budget committee. The budget needs
to be done 1 – 2 weeks before its due. Also, I will not be at the next meeting. Finally, lets focus on Alert-U because it is an
important service for students at Cabrillo College.
Flor Chacòn – Make sure to promote the March 29th deadline for 2013 – 2014 Senate Elections. Also, the SAC Event Talent
Show is coming up, be sure to promote the event and hand out tickets. The event has been planned since last semester so let’s
show support and participate. The committee plans to meet tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. for final planning.

The Executive Board addresses questions and facilitates response.

Senator Dieter Schmidtmeier has had 3 unexcused absences. Why?

Senator Dieter Schmidtmeier – “I attended the first meeting prior to the semester which shows I have been
committed to the senate, but when the semester began I had a lab conflict which has now been resolved. I do
not plan to miss any more meetings because of class conflicts.”

Perhaps the Senate should create a “Information Template” that would apply to Senate funded events that
students attend.

Templates like this could provide the Senate with useful information about how funds are spent, it they were
meaningful and how exactly funds are serving students.
