DE Coordinators’ Webinar

Monthy meetings are recorded and can be found at http://www.onefortraining.org/sites/default/files/FA14-SP15DECoordSch.pdf
Support the use of video in courses - “everybody loses when instructors say it’s too much work, I won’t use video in my course”
Jayme Johnson, FHDA
Use of captions as instructional technology - good for more than people who are hard of hearing. Keywords in the captions are
searchable; you can maximize your time trying to find something in the instructor’s notes.
Legal and copyright issues (when it comes to copyright, you must seek permission…educator or not).

Question: Do we have to put captions on PPT slides that have a voiceover even though the text is on the slide? Answer: Look at the
information presented visually. “Will it have a significant impact on the student’s ability to get equivalent content if they cannot hear
the voiceover?” For all students, ease of use reduces the size of the cognitive load for them. You also have to have an accessible
video player. The player controls must be available. DECT Grant will caption your videos. (free)
