 DE Professional Development opportunities; TLC, Online
Teaching Conference, @ONE online courses and desktop
seminars, Flex week events for distance faculty,
Blackboard Academy for experienced users
 Online Education Initiative (OEI); 5 year grant, $16.9M
funding for first year with $10M each additional year.
Focus on ADT (associate degree for transfer) courses,
development of a common course management system
(CCMS) for use at little or no cost to participant colleges
and built to specification, faculty professional
development in online pedagogy, and providing student
support tools such as online tutoring.
The selection team made a recommendation to select 24
colleges for the pilot to participate on three tracks. We are
in the track that will pilot the student readiness modules.
 Select 5 online courses
to represent Cabrillo in
the Exchange. All will be
reviewed by a selection
committee appointed by
the OEI consisting of
online instructors from
across the CCCs. Three
will be chosen for
inclusion in the
Exchange.
 Notify faculty whose
courses are being
recommended: P. Carr
(CJ1), H. Claussen

Cabrillo Strategic Plan and DE Strategic Planning
Goal Four: Provide for the growth of distance
education courses/sections as determined by
student demand and DE Plan
DE Faculty and Student Satisfaction Survey
Because of staff changes in PRO last June, only the DE
Faculty survey was submitted. Ari suggested we go ahead
and survey DE students at Cabrillo. ASCCVP@gmail.com
Georg was interested to know the most commonly offered
DE courses statewide.
Review with Distance Education Committee the Santa Cruz
Economic Report request for increased distance education
courses and sections for students [postponed to next mtg]
Implement DE plan: to include increases in online sections
and new online courses
Nancy would like to see more discipline-specific DE training
and discussions of best practices; ENGL dept did this for fall
flex week. Georg suggested opportunities for DE instructors
to share methods and techniques, and possibly separate out
business/oversight part of meeting.
