Report of the Sixteenth Meeting of JCA on ICT and Climate Change with special focus on “Cooperation with SDOs and other organizations”
1.1 General
The sixteenth Meeting of the JCA on ICT and Climate Change was held on 9 December 2014 under the Chairmanship of Ahmed Zeddam. The meeting focused on “Cooperation with SDOs and other organizations”. Dave Faulkner (Co-chair) drafted the meeting report.
1.2. Agenda
The agenda (Doc. 136) was updated to include an additional item. This was a verbal report from
SG5 Vice Chairmen, Nasser Saleh Al Marzouqi on the outcome of the meeting of the Study Group
5 Arab Regional Group held on 25 November 2014.
1.3 Ahmed Zeddam, Chairman’s Introduction
Ahmed Zeddam gave a brief summary of the previous JCA meetings (See Document 135 on the
JCA ICT&CC website).
2. Updates on “Cooperation with SDOs and other organizations”:
2.1 “Liaison Report from IEC TC111” Osamu NAMIKAWA (Doc 137)
Osamu Namikawa gave an overview of the activities related to the Environment and Climate
Change carried out by IEC TC111. His presentation summarised the details given on the slide set.
Sang Ziqin asked, whether there was any activity on Smart Cities within IEC and suggested cooperation with SG5 (see slide 18).
Osamu Namikawa said that no work had started yet. In the past there has been good collaboration between TC111 and SG5.

Cristina Bueti said that it is important to convey to IEC that there is a need to cooperate as it will avoid duplication of effort. The Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities is currently developing 20 deliverables which are expected to be finalized by March 2015.
2.2. “Liaison report from ISO/IEC JTC 1” Osamu NAMIKAWA SC39 (Doc 138)
Osamu Namikawa gave an overview of the activities related to the Environment and Climate
Change carried out by ISO/IEC JTC 1. His presentation summarised the details given on the slide set.
Ahmed Zeddam commented that there have been lots of common issues with SC39. ITU-T SG5 will continue to try to set up good collaborations.
2.3 “ITU-T SG5 Regional Group for the Arab Region (SG5 RG-ARB)” by SG5 Vice
Chairmen, Nasser Saleh AL MARZOUQI
Ahmed Zeddam thanked him for hosting the regional event.
Nasser Saleh Al Marzouqi reported verbally on the outcome of the Arab Regional meeting held on
25 November 2014 in Kuwait City. He said that, on behalf of the regional group, he would be providing a Development Action Plan concerning Environment and Climate Change based on the resolutions and outcomes of WTSA-12, PP-14 and WTDC-14 Conferences. This would be aimed at satisfying needs of developing countries and would be presented to the SG5 plenary meeting of
SG5.
Ahmed Zeddam agreed that this would make a useful contribution to the forthcoming SG5 plenary meeting.
3. Closing Remarks
Cristina Bueti (ITU) gave an update on forthcoming activities. These include:
