What is the Prometeo Project? The Prometeo Project is an initiative integrated to the Ecuadorian national plan for the creation of a knowledge-based social economy. Its goal is to strengthen research, teaching and knowledge transference in six fields of priority: - Sciences of production and innovation Natural Resources Life Sciences Educational Sciences Pure Sciences Art & Culture Who are the Prometeos? They are high level Ecuadorian or foreign experts (Ph.D) with broad experiences in their fields of study who arrive to Ecuador in order to develop a research or academic project in Ecuadorian host institutions. Their projects contemplate stays between 2 to 12 months (not necessarily in consecutive periods) and function as a grand awarded by the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Ecuador. The program is aimed at the generation of projects with a high impact on Ecuador that contribute to achieve the goals set in the National Plan of Good Living (http://bit.ly/WKtmFG). According to these objectives, the experts may be incorporated to the host institution for a second and, exceptionally, a third stay within the country. Which players integrate the Project? •Pre.requirements •To hold a Ph.D. degree • To reside outside of Ecuador (for at least 3 months at the time of their application) Applicant/Expert Project •Incorporate experts to host institutions •Follow-up the project's development • Higher education institutions (public or co-financed) •Technical institutes •Public Research Institutes •Public entitites Host institutions Categories of Prometeos: Academics: Prometeos mainly dedicated to academic activities (classwork, workpshops, curricular design, etc.) Researchers: Prometeos mainly dedicated to a research Project that contemplates knowledge transference with complementary academic activities. Evaluation criteria - Projects led as head researcher Publications (books, book’s chapters, indexed papers) Awards concerning their field of study Years of faculty activity Experience in the management of research centers (for researchers) Thesis tutoring Patent registration (for researchers) Letters of recommendation Activities in Ecuador • To execute a research or academic project • To teach and/or transfer knowledge • To foster research networks • To train national research and/or academic teams • To give support in the editing and publication of papers and books • To publish the results of their Project • To organize events such as workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. • To evaluate research projects, academic programs and participate in the assessment of higher education institutions What are the benefits of becoming a Prometeo? • • • • • • Living expenses: from USD 2,000 to USD 6,000 every month depending on the category obtained during the evaluation Airfare: up to USD 3,000 roundtrip from your home country to Ecuador and back Initial accommodation: USD 300 for the first days of your stay Housing: up to USD 500 every month for during 6 months of your stay Health and life insurance: up to USD 2,500 for one year Supplies and scientific visits: up to USD 4,000 for the project’s development and USD 2,000 for academics. How to become a Prometeo? 1. Online application a. Application through an online platform and submission of documents at: prometeo.educacionsuperior.gob.ec 2. Determination of a host institution (2 kinds of applications): a. The host institutions select a profile for the project’s development from a pull of pre-selected candidates, who have approved the evaluation. b. In the case of applicants who have had previous contact with a host institution, they may apply directly for that institution on the online system. 3. Elaboration and submission of the proposal a. Once they’ve been assigned to a host institution, both the applicant and the host institution develop a joint work proposal that will be submitted to a evaluating committee composed by SENESCYT authorities, who will determine the impact and pertinence of the Project. 4. Incorporation a. With the approved proposal, the Prometeo will receive assistance to prepared his/her arrival to Ecuador. Why Ecuador?
