(WEG or the Company) – Bovespa (WEGE3), one of the largest players in industrial electro-electronic and related equipments, announces the start of the succession process of its Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Decio da Silva will be replaced, from January 2008 onwards, by Mr. Harry Schmeltzer Jr., which is currently WEG’s International Regional Director in Europe. Mr. Silva will join the Board of Directors. Mr. Silva has been WEG’s Chief Executive Officer since 1989, a period of strong expansion and internationalization of the Company. The current CEO has stressed the importance and the need of renewal for the continuous growth of WEG. “A Company created by its founders’ boldness, dynamism, intelligence and determination enters now into a phase of transition marked by one strong theme: renewal. Our life is made of choices. When I assumed this post I made a choice to focus on results and always implemented actions with discipline and speed. His participation was fundamental in WEG’s expansion process throughout his 18 years leading this Company. He has build the solid foundations that prepared WEG for its sustainable growth, with the development of new leaderships, market focus and transparency. The results can be observed by the expressive increase of shareholder value over these years. Mr. Secches highlighted that the choice of Mr. Schmeltzer Jr. was based on performance evaluations and also considered WEG’s potential to nurture managerial talent. Mr. Silva also highlighted that the decision was matured over the past three years and is founded on WEG’s history of participative management and corporate governance. Mr. Harry Schmeltzer Jr. joined WEG in 1980 and has served as Chief of Sales of WEG Acionamentos in 1983, Sales Manager in 1986 and Superintendent Director of WEG Acionamentos from 1992 through 2006, when was nominated Superintendent Director of WEG Motores. In 2007 became International Regional Director in Europe, based in Portugal. Harry Schmelzer Jr. is 49 years old and holds a B.A. in Electrical Engineering and post-graduate degree in Business Administration in Brazil, with management and finance studies by Instituto Euvaldo Lodi / Insead France and IMD International, in Switzerland. His mission will be to continue to execute WEG’s growth and internationalization project.
