BSC Scope/Function
To recommend and support educational programs, student support services, and matriculation policies that enhance
retention, persistence, and academic success of basic skills students.
1. To promote the use of effective practices in developmental education for administrative, student services, and
instructional programs.
2. To provide professional development regarding effective practices in developmental education.
3. To work with Institutional Research in tracking basic skills students from entry to completion.
4. To assess and evaluate the programs designed to improve student success.
5. To allocate and oversee expenditures of BSI categorical funds.

AGENDA
Geoff Cain discussed a possible professional development workshop
co sponsored with Humboldt County Schools on May 21st. It would be
a half day seminar or panel discussion with breakout sessions focused
on assessment, remediation, and student engagement. Vinnie Peloso
is also interested in participating.
The committee agreed that the form is fine and Barbara will work with
Paul Chown to develop an online version. The committee agreed that
the Tri-chairs will send an email to the campus announcing that the
BSC is going to solicit proposals for funding next fall. The tentative
proposal timeline is:
Call for proposals—September 1
1st review of proposals—November 1
Erin Wall and Zach DeLoach discussed the basic skills data currently
collected. Zach also presented the brief overview of the Institutional
Effectiveness Indicators the IEC approved. Erin suggested that the
committee discuss baseline data needs soon.
Keith Snow-Flamer suggested the committee think about meeting
during the summer to develop the 2011-12 BSI Action Plans.
