This position requires producing and maintaining a diverse collection of plants throughout
their life-cycle, and assisting teachers and students during structured and independent endeavors.
This necessitates purchasing materials pertinent to running the horticulture program which we fund
through our plant sales for the campus and the community.

Statement of Need (Justify the need for the position)
There is a tremendous amount of work required to maintain this teaching facility. Besides
what is listed in the job description there is hiring, training, and working with work study students,
giving greenhouse tours, and participating in campus events, This position, much like the farm
manager, is responsible for applying agricultural and horticultural principles that help to facilitate
class and lab demonstrations, manage plant sales, and maintain public relations in the community.
New students often visit and show high interest in CR’s greenhouse.

This position helps provide the high level of expertise needed to maintain the agriculture
program and support student success. As a result we will produce better trained and qualified
students for the agriculture workplace. This position is also important in the area of student
retention in that students will be able to get the help needed on their projects and as a result will be
more likely to complete the program.
