Executive Summary
Adopted November 6, 2009
Mission Statement The College of the Redwoods’ Program Review Committee leads and facilitates authentic
assessment as it relates to student success and planning at the institution for all subject and service areas.
The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation
upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans
and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under
the strategic planning objectives.
Objective: To provide an evaluative Executive Summary of this program’s review for authors, the
Integrated Planning Committees, and the District.

Summary and Recommendations:
1. Program strengths:
Quality of staff lends strength to the program evidenced by
revised, stronger program review;
Collaboration with CalSOAP to receive scholarship funds.
Also, collaboration with HSU for providing summer
residential program activities.
Summer Bridge program, for HS students between HS and
College;
Very successful program -21 year program; 100% of students
in the class of 2009 who participated until high school
graduation enrolled in college.
2. Program challenges/obstacles:
CalSOAP Funding cuts will result in reduced staffing for
Upward Bound; four out of six Upward Bound permanent
staff are partially funded by CalSOAP and any loss affects
program;
Federal monies available, but is competitive
Facilities (firing range)

4. Program Budget/Funding Sources:
contingency plan if funding for the CalSOAP program is cut in
August
Resources needed to write strong grant. Grant monies cannot
fund future grant proposals.
Process:
PRC will forward completed Executive Summaries to program review authors.
Authors will have two weeks to provide feedback and corrections on errors of fact and/interpretation
PRC will forward Executive Summaries and authors response (if available) to the appropriate integrated
planning committee and the CPC.

Meet grant requirements;
Goals and assessment tied to grant; meeting objectives will
lead to higher points in “competition”
Submission of solid grant proposal
Add a basic skills component to the Summer Bridge program

Revised submission of PLO/SLOs significantly increased
