College of the Redwoods Program Review Committee Executive Summary Adopted November 6, 2009 Mission Statement The College of the Redwoods’ Program Review Committee leads and facilitates authentic assessment as it relates to student success and planning at the institution for all subject and service areas. The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under the strategic planning objectives. Objective: To provide an evaluative Executive Summary of this program’s review for authors, the Integrated Planning Committees, and the District. Program strengths: Math comp focused on course major (high-end courses) Enrollment increase 39% over 3 years Mid day most demanded time slot 4 degrees conferred last year Dedicated, creative faculty Active in areas of improving success, access and isntructional innovation 2. Program challenges/obstacles: Need for Full time math faculty; not known where math Need for technology and tutors stands on the faculty prioritization list Loss of full time faculty; Tutors and computers needed for OptiMath Faculty college-responsibilities has increased the workload on the department 3. Commendations Commend math faculty on their focus on the major components; Good and useable program outcomes that are well designed and manageable; Baseline level assessment activities and use of outcomes 4. Program Budget/Funding Sources: Need technology and tutors & Recommendations: Identified changes should be documented (observations recorded) More detail/clarification on what equipment needs replacing Need for more computers, projector and camera 5. Program Goals/Plans: Developed plans to assess are measureable, but can be made more explicit Assessment is baseline; no specific timeline; ongoing 6.
