With the following revision:
1. Under the NEW Program Requirements, correct typo: Intro to Bookkeeping.
With the following discussion:
1. Michael Dennis- The Department consulted with our Dean regarding the BUS.CA.GENERAL
certificate. We trimmed down the certificate and made it more of immediate career prep. It
is now less like the degree without the General Education. We changed the local title from
Certificate of Achievement, General Business to Certificate of Achievement, Small Business
Management. Total number of units changed from 47.0 to 27.0.
2. Gary Sokolow – Raised concern with reducing number of units by half the amount would
make it a Substantial Change instead of a Non-Substantial Change.
3. Peter Blakemore – Since courses are being removed from the certificate and not added to
the certificate it does not change the students course of action. It is considered a NonSubstantial Change.
4.9 ECON-1 Macroeconomics – Michael Dennis

With the following discussion:
1. Erik Kramer- Raised concern wondering how the unit changes will impact TLU budgets.
2. Michael Dennis – There will be a slight increase in TLUs. Other Department Faculty and our
Dean approved the change.
3. Erik Kramer – Instead of increasing the amount of course units, what about offering
additional office hours for students? Is increasing the amount of units really the only
unique solution?
4. Peter Blakemore – Unfortunately, you cannot force students to attend office hours. With
this solution they will now be required to participate in a Lab.
5. Erik Kramer – Raised concern that this change will set precedence for other classes to tack
on additional units. There are other solutions such as increasing the number of office hours
to accommodate student needs.
6. Ken Letko – A higher prerequisite can be an alternative to increasing the number of units.
7. Michael Dennis – Students are looking for additional tutoring, but they do not take
advantage of office hours. An additional Lab will accommodate their needs.
8. Allen Keppner – There are going to be scheduling issues that arise out of this change.
