For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, April 27, 2004 Cameron University science and geography fair opens new doors for local elementary students Dozens of Lawton youngsters explored the wonders and value of research Saturday during Cameron University’s annual elementary school science and geography fair. An estimated 65 youngsters from kindergarten through the sixth grade investigated different aspects of science using creative hands-on experiments, according to CU physical science professor Dr. Kurtis Koll, who directed the event. Each year, the Cameron event celebrates each student’s unique project. These participants, called “Awesome Science Experimenters,” expand the celebration of science by conducting outstanding experiments and projects from a variety of scientific and geographic disciplines. “In addition to the participant’s hard work, local elementary school teachers, principals, parents and others in our community work hard behind the scenes to make ASE students aware of the fundamental wonders of science and geography,” said volunteer coordinator Chearlene Glover-Johnson. Approximately 40 ASE participants from 22 local elementary schools took top placings in two divisions – Primary for grades K-3 and Intermediate for grades 4-6. Primary division winners and their schools were: First Place: Sydney Garcia and David Sellers, Hoover; Taylor Kennedy, Sullivan Village; Crimson Bly, Cleveland; Joshua Griffith, Country Club Heights; Kaylee Snow, Sullivan Village; Ashlynn Prichett, Whittier; and Jacob Hooper, Almor West. Second Place: Hezekiah Jones, Whittier; Sonia Smith, Pioneer Park; Bria Smith, Romey Fawaz, Michealle Ishaan and Austin Harper, Lawton Academy of Arts & Sciences; Emily Howard, B. C. Swinney; and Joshua Dawkins, Howell. Third Place: Maybree Rittenhouse, Carriage Hills; Jordan Gabriele, Lincoln; Danielle Lewis, Woodland Hills; and Austin Hall, Park Lane. Intermediate division winners were: First Place: Rachel Shaw, Whittier; Kevin Dooley, Woodland Hills; Ashley Pope, Crosby Park; Jared Scroggins, Woodland Hills; Samantha Jones, Sheridan Road; Kyle Bear, Wilson; Teresa Fowler, Almor West; Judah Muse, Howell; Alex Isper, Pioneer Park; and Joshua Brock, Hoover.
