CU ag department offers turf management course
The Cameron University Department of Agriculture will present an eight-week course for individuals
wanting to learn the principles of turf management. Taught by CU adjunct horticulture instructor Jim Coe,
the course meets every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m., beginning March 8.
The primary objective of this course is to introduce the principles of turfgrass management at a level
suitable for those just entering the field, but will also contain sufficient content to be used by experienced
turfgrass managers.
Topics will include warm and cool season grass varieties, establishment, fertilizers, mowing, irrigation,
weed control and insect and disease prevention. Sports field management, professional lawn care and golf
course maintenance will also be covered.
The course is ideal for managers and technicians from professional lawn care services, golf course
maintenance, sport complex maintenance, college students and homeowners who maintain their own
lawns.
The course, “Turf Management” (AGRC 4322 SS) is available for two hours of college credit. Students
should enroll through the CU agriculture department at 580/581-2275. The course can also be taken
without college credit by contacting Kathleen Glenn in CU Educational Outreach at 580/581-2282.

Coe recently retired as Comanche County’s OSU Extension educator. He taught the master gardener
program and is also a featured horticulture writer for the Lawton Constitution and Oklahoma Gardening
magazine.
