Fall 2007 was the first official administration of the CCTST at MTSU, following a two-year pilot of the test. The CCTST requires students to draw inferences, make interpretations, analyze information, draw warranted inferences, identify claims and reasons, and to evaluate the quality of arguments using brief passages, diagrams and charts. In summary, the 16.9 average Total Score for seniors tested was slightly below the national average of 17.1. MTSU will receive 13 points for this Performance Funding standard. MTSU’s average Total Score was 16.9 compared to the national average of 17.1. The CCTST provides five subscores for individual students in addition to the Total Score. Subscores for deductive and inductive reasoning, as well as the skills of analysis, evaluation and inference are included in this report. This additional information provides a better tool for departmental faculty to plan and implement actions intended to improve students' abilities and scores in the tested areas. Scores for students with multiple majors are counted in each major officially declared by the student. Readers of the report are urged to read all notes printed at the bottom of the tables for further clarification. The 2013-14 results equate to 13 points - for general education assessment in the Performance Funding program. According to THEC's schedule, institutions will be notified of the total points awarded in mid-December. ii General Education Test Results 2013-14 Summary by College Middle Tennessee State University Min Max 5.0 4.5 4.8 4.0 5.1 4.4 4.6 4.8 17 16 17 16 18 17 15 17 2 7 4 5 5 7 6 2 31 32 29 27 32 29 28 32 Inference Range: 0-16 Median 17.5 16.1 17.1 16.1 17.9 17.0 15.1 16.9 Induction Range: 0 - 17 Std Dev 62.6% 56.0% 62.5% 61.0% 68.9% 69.2% 32.4% 59.2% Evaluation Range: 0 - 11 Mean 669 985 579 200 657 478 444 3985 Deduction Range: 0 - 17 % Tested 419 552 362 122 453 331 144 2360 Analysis Range: 0-7 Degrees Conferred College Basic and Applied Sciences Behavioral and Health Sciences Business Education Liberal Arts Mass Communication University College MTSU - All Students Tested No. Tested Subscores 4.6 4.4 4.5 4.2 4.6 4.6 4.2 4.5 7.5 6.7 7.2 6.5 7.6 7.3 6.2 7.1 4.8 4.4 4.6 4.5 5.3 4.8 4.1 4.7 10.0 9.4 9.9 9.6 10.3 9.7 8.9 9.8 8.1 7.2 8.0 7.3 8.0 7.5 6.7 7.7 Average Total Scores: College, University & National CCTST Score Range 0 - 34 College Basic and Applied Sciences Behavioral and Health Sciences Business Education Education and Behavioral Sci Liberal Arts Mass Communication University College MTSU - All Students Tested National Note: Students with dual degrees are counted once in each college that offers one of their degrees, which creates duplicated counts.
