LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGES PERSONNEL GUIDE ISSUE DATE: 3-10-03 REPLACES: 3-10-03 SERVICE: Certificated DISTRIBUTION: General (See PG: B339 for decoding) B 449 RULES WINTER INTERSESSION CHANGES: Effect of D or M basis overlapping the intersession. ISSUED BY: Office of Pers Oper RULES FOR WINTER INTERSESSION For planning of the number of hours of class time per week, please be sure to schedule at or above the Carnegie minimum. For a 3 standard hour course, schedule at least 48 hours, preferably about 54. Starting 7/1/2002, service in Winter Intersession will be creditable to the retirement system, with an 8% deduction from gross pay. Winter Intersession service is exempt from counting for eligibility for tenure or probationary status, just as Summer Session service; there is no 60% limit applied to service of a temporary employee. Winter Intersession classes may not overlap into the Fall or Spring semester period of classes without loss of exemption. Service in Fall or Spring will count in that semester. Overlaps into Winter Intersession from Fall or Spring up to two weeks do not count in the Winter Intersession. Just as for Summer Session, assignments are limited to 1 FTE until the priority procedure has been followed for all and a person reaches priority a second time. The “level pay” method used in Fall and Spring is now used for Winter Intersession as well. Use the 25 and 26 pay periods. If the intersession spans both 25 and 26, pay half in each of 25 and 26. Just as for Summer sessions, WSCH apportionment is not available for Winter intersession. To have the preferable DSCH status for intersession classes, please be sure the class meeting time is the same on all days the class meets. That is, divide the time per week into equal packets for the four or five days the class meets. Temporary, prob and tenured faculty may be assigned 100%. CLASSES STAFFED BY PROB/TENURED FACULTY (MUST USE Z BASIS): 1. Staffed in payback of a contract underload, or as part of an approved load banking plan. Assigned for pay. Code this “H” in SCH4; in DEC use “0” or blank for evening, “2” for day classes. Assign using level pay by course method, in class 0811, Z0 basis, status EW for the contractual flat rate. Must keep office hours. Report time by level pay method (equal hours in each pay period assigned). CLASSES STAFFED BY TEMPORARY FACULTY (MUST USE Z BASIS): No contract overload or load banking is allowed for temporary faculty, so all assignments are hourly rate.
