The Great California ShakeOut (Earthquake) Drill! October 20, 2011 at 10:20 A.M. On Thursday, October 20, 2011, millions of Californians will “DROP, COVER AND HOLD ON”, as a simulated Magnitude 7.8 earthquake strikes the region along 180-miles of the San Andreas Fault. Please join the Los Angeles Community Colleges in supporting the largest earthquake drill in U.S. history! The Great California “ShakeOut” is based on a potential magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the southern San Andreas Fault— approximately 5,000 times larger than the magnitude 5.4 earthquake that shook southern California on July 29, 2008. It’s not a matter of if an earthquake of this size will happen—but when. And it is possible that it will happen in our lifetime.
