Centennial Honors College Western Illinois University Undergraduate Research Day 2012 Poster Presentation Case Study of the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake Meagan McWhirter Faculty Mentor: Thomas Williams Geography I will be doing a case study on the Tohoku Earthquake in Japan. I will discuss what happened before, during, and after the event. I will talk about what caused the hazard, when it occurred, and the geographic location that was affected. I will also display the Japan Quake Map which is a fantastic graphic representation of the earthquakes and aftershocks that destroyed northern Japan. A discussion on the responses to the disaster will be included as well as the efficiency of the responses. Another consideration in my report will be the preparedness of the Japan citizens before the devastating earthquake and their readiness for another disaster now.
