We feel a keen sense of professional responsibility to remedy this situation. After careful committee and departmental consideration, we have decided to require a course in professional editing, CRW 322, as both a means of dealing with this shortcoming, and of exposing all of our students to a course devoted to editing literary manuscripts. Requiring this course for all undergraduate majors will mean adding 3 credit hrs. to the degree requirements, raising the total from 51 to 54 credit hours.
