Communication

There will not be a meeting next week due to the Veteran’s Day holiday.

The Council was given a heads-up regarding a forthcoming Bioethics certificate
proposal. It seems it was misplaced during the gathering of administrators’
signatures. The Council would like to wait until the proposal is complete –
signatures and associated syllabi prior to review. It was agreed that it should be
reviewed by both the Social Science and Science subcommittees.

Chair Bolton has a course conflict with the Faculty Senate meeting so Chair-Elect
Hirstein will present the curriculum consent agenda.

In the past the timeline for the printed catalog set the schedule for curriculum
review. Members inquired whether this would change now that there was no
longer a printed catalog. Camie will follow-up with the Registrar.
Business Items:
Curriculum Follow-up:
 Humanities:
The subcommittee met with several representatives from Women’s and Gender
Studies. The proposal will be revised and resubmitted in the spring.
Chair Bolton spoke to the Honors College Dean regarding the proposed HC 496
UG Independent Study and the recommended elimination of the UG status for HC
495. Dean McKusick accepted the Council’s decision regarding HC 496 UG, but
will join the Council on November 18th to discuss HC 495 UG.

Social Science:
ANTH 447 UG was withdrawn. Follow-up is still pending regarding ANTH 446
UG and ANTH 448 UG. The Program Modification for Linguistics and PSCI 445
UG were approved.

Science:
CS 578 was approved and the Department agreed to drop the UG status for CS
478.
These courses are co-convened. It is clear that efforts need to resume on the
proposal to establish policy for current practice. Concerns were expressed
regarding how the change would be implemented with respect to Policy C1.300 At least half the credits required for your degree (excluding a combined total of
10 semester credits for thesis and research) will be at the 500 or 600 level.
The meeting was adjourned at 1.05 p.m.
