John Tovar Earns Prestigious Jeff Award COD Theater instructor John Tovar earned a 2013 Jeff Award for his fight choreography in A Red Orchid Theatre's "The Opponent." Tovar noted that despite his success as a fight choreographer, teaching has provided him with the most satisfaction. “I found no greater joy than when a student has that 'aha' moment when they finally understand a particular lesson and it changes them,” he said. “You can't get that from performing onstage. Martinez is currently booking the 2014-2015 season, the first full season back in the MAC since it reopened this year after a 16-month floor to ceiling renovation. Improvements to the Belushi Performance Hall, Playhouse Theater and Studio Theater as well as the addition of the outdoor Patio Stage are providing new opportunities, and Martinez is excited about the possibilities. “By keeping in place the programming that our community clearly enjoys, we can build on it with shows that appeal to a broader audience, such as music or comedy shows that are more accessible to students,” Martinez said. “I also plan to bring in some big headliners every year to attract new audiences to the MAC and create additional excitement around our season lineups.” Read More Screening of Award-Winning ‘Brave Miss World’ at COD April 7 In recognition of April as Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month, the COD Human Services program will present a free screening of “Brave Miss World” at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 7, in HSC 1234. Brave Miss World,” directed by actress and filmmaker Cecilia Peck, is an awardwinning feature length documentary that tells the story of former Miss World Linor Abargil. The film details Abargil’s journey from teenage victim to empowered survivor, lawyer and world-travelling advocate in her quest to heal and put her attacker behind bars. Record 16 DuPage County ACT-SO Gold Winners Advance to Nationals A record 16 students (left) were awarded gold medals in 18 categories at this year's DuPage ACT-SO Awards. The students will move on to compete at nationals in Las Vegas in July.
