May 2, 2014 COD Hosts Multi-Phase Shooting, Fire and Emergency First Responder Simulation College of DuPage Nursing Lab Technician Jaime Lemens cries out in pain after being “shot” during a simulated emergency responder simulation at the College last week. The multi-level event, which took two months to plan, tested the skills of students in the EMT, Nursing, Surgical Technology, CT, Nuclear Medicine and Respiratory Care programs. Secretary of State Jesse White Visits COD Study Body President Sam Ortega-Guerrero presents Secretary of State Jesse White with a Chaparral cap following a presentation on Donate Life Month, which covered the need for organ and tissue donation registration in Illinois. Currently more than 5,000 Illinois residents are waiting for a lifesaving organ, with a new person added to this list every 10 minutes. Click here for photos and a video from the visit. Christian O’Kelley Earns Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Student Christian O’Kelley is the recipient of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, the largest private scholarship for twoyear and community college transfer students. The Lombard resident is one of 85 students nationwide to receive the award and is the seventh COD recipient in the College’s history. The scholarship provides $30,000 annually to cover educational expenses during the final two or three years when the recipient completes a bachelor’s degree. Read More Pilobolus Dance Company Master Class Seventeen dance students participated in a Master Class conducted by two ensemble members of the renowned Pilobolus Dance Company on Thursday, April 17. The focus of the class was to build trust between dancers and encourage honest emotion and dialogue through movement. Kudos to… Art Professor David Ouellette and Art program faculty who recently hosted the annual “Walk This Way” high school art exhibit. More than 100 students, family, friends, teachers and community members attended the event, which provided an opportunity for high school students in District 502 to display their work in a wide range of styles and media, including ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. “COD created this event to celebrate and support up-and-coming artists,” said Ouellette, who noted that the students received feedback from COD professors and learned about careers in art and what the College has to offer in terms of Art programming. Tours were given throughout the day of the new 11,000 square-foot Fitness Center, which includes an eight-lane, 25-yard lap pool, 75 pieces of cardio equipment and 15 52-inch HD televisions and first-class locker rooms. Members also have access to drop-in classes such as spinning, yoga, TRX, boot camp and boxing.
