Dec. 18 - Winter Party
Dec. 19 - Jan. 3 - Winter Break - Enjoy your time with family and friends! Happy Holidays!
Reading/Writing Workshop
This week we have continued our poetry study along with writing workshop. Students have been introduced to more
forms of poems and have explored the aspects of word choice, syllables, and rhyme. Students extended their
knowledge of poems to create a unique collection that will be published and sent home next week. We have also
been refining the skills of inferencing and visualization as we take an in depth / close read of poems.
Math
Students spiraled back to skip counting this week. We focused on skip counting within the hundreds for this trimester. They
learned a game called Target 1000. This would be a great game to play over the holidays! Students have learned several card
games that can be played with a deck of cards. These games would be a nice addition to your family game night! We completed
this unit on Friday with our unit test. We will spiral back to time next week. Students will be asked to read time to the nearest
5 minutes.
Word Study
This week in Word Study, students continued to practice their 12 spelling words with various activities (Graph a Word, 5-Box
Practice, Word Search, and Look, Say, Cover, Check). Students were assessed over these words today. Please check Progress
Book for grades.
