IMPORTANT NOTE: You will be required to have WebAssign for weekly quizzes in our class. Please refer to the Book/WebAssign document posted on our class website for details about book options. Calculator Policy: You may find it helpful to have a graphing calculator for your own personal use. However, most of the time I will exclude the use of a calculator on exams/quizzes. For other exams/quizzes, I’ll allow a scientific calculator. Graphing or cell phone calculators will NOT be allowed on exams/quizzes. Prerequisites: At least a B grade in Math 1010 or an appropriate ACT/SAT or Accuplacer score. There will be no retakes/make-‐up exams. Make sure that you are in class and prepared to take each exam. You will be required to bring a pencil and your student ID to each exam. Quizzes There will be a short online quiz every Wednesday. The weekly quiz will cover the material presented the previous week in class. I will drop your lowest two quiz scores. There will be no retakes/make-‐
ups of quizzes ever. If you miss a quiz for ANY reason, that will just count as one of the lowest quiz grades that will be dropped. Homework Practice is an essential part of learning. Observing someone else doing problems is VERY different from working problems yourself! I will assign homework for each topic discussed in class. You can access the list of problems on the class website. You should complete the homework problems before the next class session. I will try to spend some time in class answering questions that come up during your practice. Please bring additional questions to office hours.  Weekly assignments will be collected each Tuesday by the end of class. All of the homework assigned the previous week is due at that time.  Each section of the homework will be worth ten points.  You will get the full credit if you DO every problem. I will NOT be grading for correctness, so it is your responsibility to make sure you understand the problems and their solutions. I collect homework basically as motivation for you to complete the assigned problems because practice is an essential part of learning mathematics.  The following instruction apply to turning in homework: o The homework set MUST be stapled together with a completed cover sheet as the first page. A homework set turned in without being stapled or without a completed cover sheet will not be counted! Make sure you include your class ID on all written work. o I will accept 10 late homework sections, up to two weeks late, throughout the semester for full credit. I accept these late homework sections to allow for illness, oversleeping, hectic schedules, etc. I will NOT accept homework more than two weeks late. Do not ask for special exceptions with regard to the homework policy, unless the circumstances are extraordinarily severe, my response will not be in your favor. This policy is meant to be flexible enough to cover all reasons.  There may be additional assignments given out and collected during class as needed throughout the semester. Due dates and details regarding these specific assignments will be discussed in class when the assignment is given and then posted on the class website. You are responsible for knowing these policies. Please take it seriously because the flexibility listed here is literally all there is. CDS will work with you and the instructor to make arrangements for accommodations. Other Policies:  I will expect respectful behavior in my classroom. Examples of disrespectful behavior include but are not limited to texting, using cell phones, iPods or other electronic devices, chatting with a friend/neighbor during class, coming late, or leaving early. If your behavior becomes distracting to any person in class (including myself), I may decide to ask you to leave the class.  I do NOT allow the use of laptop computers in my classroom.  I will send information to the class via the campus information system. Students will be notified of any changes to course policies through email if changes arise throughout the semester. You will be responsible for this information. It is in your best interest to make sure your email address is up-‐to-‐date.  I will post your grades on CANVAS. Please check your grades regularly to make sure there are no data entry mistakes. I’m always happy to correct any mistakes I’ve made. You just need to let me know about them.  If you cheat on any homework, project, quiz or exam, I will automatically give you a zero for that grade. Depending on the severity of the cheating, I may decide to fail you from the class. Any students with an unapproved calculator during a quiz or exam will receive a zero.  Make sure that the written work you turn in is organized and legible (with your class ID). I will only grade work that I can read.  You may take an alternate exam if you talk to me about it first and explain the extenuating circumstances that make it necessary. Needing to work, babysitting your siblings, oversleeping, or needing more time to study do not pass as acceptable. Getting in a car crash or having to attend your child’s birth, on the other hand, is sufficient reason to request to take an alternate exam (I reserve the right to ask for a written evidence of any claims you make). But, it is 100% your responsibility to communicate with me as soon as is possible, before the exam occurs (or as soon as possible). Talking to me after the exam will be sufficient reason for you to receive a zero on that exam. I reserve the right to make alternate exams more difficult than the scheduled exam.  If you have crisis-level extenuating circumstances, which require flexibility, it is 100% your responsibility to communicate with me as soon as possible. The longer you wait to communicate with me, the less I can and am willing to do to help.  The best way to contact me is by email or in office hours. Be aware I do not check my email in the evening or during the weekend.  Please make sure you do your best throughout the semester. Come talk to me if you need additional study strategies. No extra credit will be given at the end of the semester. Do not ask me to make special arrangements for you to improve your grade at the end of the semester. If you ask me toward the end of the semester if I’ll make special arrangements for you to improve your grade by some means, the answer will be NO.
