Communications Item: Members were reminded that today is the Day of Dialogue and there are many events taking place on campus. Business Items The Social Science curriculum items appended below were approved. Follow-up is pending for ANTY 440 and PSCI 480, as well as the Sociology program modification. The e-Curr form/ syllabi for PSCI 437 will be updated in accordance to the comments made by the department chair and the dean. The review of GPHY 597 and the program modification for Anthropology was postponed as the originals were missing from the folder and the site was down. Members were reminded that program review documents should be reviewed by the Council soon. The goal was that they should be completed prior to Thanksgiving. After discussion it was agreed that the Council would not meet on November 20th to allow subcommittees time to discuss the reviews. All review documents (EVST, Geography, Public Health and Math) should be submitted for review prior to the December 4th meeting. The Council discussed the proposed Master in Applied Online Technologies. There were several concerns / questions. There are faculty members from the School of Business listed in the proposal, but the Dean’s signature is missing. It will be sent for approval. Representatives will be invited to next week’s meeting to address the concerns listed below. 1) The name of the graduate program does not appear to describe its educational content. "applied online technologies" is a very general term and can mean many things. 2) Some GC members questioned whether the content of certain 500 courses (for example "online learning platforms and devices) was consistent with a graduatelevel course. 2 3) Perhaps the most significant concern was whether the program would have sufficient resources, and commitment from the three major units involve, to be sustainable. Faculty in Business, Media Arts and Education, will be instructors in the new program. Presumably, unless these instructors are willing to increase their teaching loads to accommodate the new program, some part of their FTE will have to be replaced by their respective units. Is there commitment from the participating schools to cover the costs of replacing the effort of faculty who will be contributing to the on-line program. Has this been discussed with the deans of the participating schools? Generally, the GC would like to see the funding model for the proposed program.
