As has been announced to the campus and community, ENMU-Ruidoso is currently administering a Department of Education Grant. The grant officially began activities on October 1, 2014, and each grant year runs from October 1st of one year through September 30th of the next year. The Title V Grant is managed over a Five -Year plan referred to as the 5-Year Measurable Institutional Objectives, and the two Objectives for Year 1 (October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015) are twofold: 1) Develop a Wildland Fire Science AAS/Certificate; and 2) Develop new Online Admissions and Registration systems, to include Online Advisement. Each year of the grant, there will be both internal and external evaluations as well as a financial audit. To ensure compliance with the grant, we have strict timelines that are connected to designated activities and dedicated funds that support the two Objectives above. In addition to the Project Manager (PM), there are four other Title V Positions in place each grant year: the Administrative Assistant (AD); the Online Services Specialist (OSS); the Activity Director/Instructional Designer (ID); and a Program Specialist for the academic program developed that grant year. So far, we have hired and we welcome Tonia Ashby (AD) and Juanita Garcia (OSS) to the new Title V Team! We are presently interviewing for the ID position, and the Wildland Fire Specialist position is posted. Grant purchases for Information Services infrastructure needed to support the new Online Services are near completion, and we will pilot those services in spring 2015. We are pleased to report that we are in compliance with grant timeline activities for October-December (2014). The Title V Office is located in the corridor, to the left of the ENMU entrance and reception area. Additional Title V office space is in the adjacent Student Services area, and that area will accommodate the four other Title V employees. So, there will be much excitement and many energy-driven activities going on from now through next fall, and we want everyone to be actively involved in understanding what we are doing, especially in regard to Year 1 Objectives. To that end, we will publish a monthly Newsletter that will provide a summary of progress, and we will soon upload a Title V Webpage. The grant works with all areas of the college, so it is vital that everyone is apprised of activities as they begin; as they progress; and as they are completed. If you have any questions about the grant or about any activities we are performing, please feel free to come by the Title V Office and speak with me-your interest is always welcome!
