January 2015
As we start the New Year, we want to ensure that you know what we are working on this spring in
context with Title V Timelines and Compliance. At this time, we are in the 4th month of Year 1.
A reminder that the two Grant Objectives for year 1 are the following:
1) Develop a Wildland Fire Science AAS/Certificate; and
2) Develop new Online Admissions and Registration systems, to include Online Advisement.
Spring 2015:
1. Title V Staff: We are happy to announce that we have hired four out of the five positions. In
December, Sarah Karabelski accepted the position as Title V Instructional Designer/Activity
Director. You may be acquainted with Sarah since she has served as an adjunct for ENMU-Ruidoso. She
will officially begin on January 12th, so drop by the Title V Team Offices and see where they are
working. I will introduce her to different sections of the campus, so please make her feel at home!
2. Evaluation/Monitoring:
a. External Evaluator: Completed—contract/MOU are signed.
Many thanks to Amy Bertamsen (IR) who will create and finalize the Evaluation Plan and instruments.
b. Internal Monitoring: Dr. Alred has created the Internal Evaluation Team (the ET), which will
convene quarterly.
3. Online Admissions/Registration/Advising systems: Jim Weinman (IS) has followed College
purchasing procedures and worked with consultants to purchase and install information infrastructure
components needed to support new online services, including development of interactive
resources (e.g. Live Chat). Jim has also purchased and installed components to support online/hybrid
instruction in preparation for courses that will be piloted in fall 2015. Many thanks to Bill Pitt’s
assistance with getting computers and phones installed in the Title V Team Office!
4. Wildland Fire Science Degree Plans: Special thanks to Quentin Hays for his collaboration in this
regard and to the Academic Council for their assistance with program recommendation. Pierre Laroche
successfully secured approval for the program from the College Board of Trustees as well as the Board of
Regents. A special thanks for the support for this initiative that our Board members have provided.
5. Inventory: Supplies and equipment are already arriving! These items will be scanned and tagged for
grant inventory purposes and stored for upcoming Title V projects and Activities. Thanks in advance to
John Burns and Bill Pitt for their work on this endeavor!
6. Web Page: Thanks to Coda Omness for assisting us with creating our entry page for the Title V
Grant. We look forward to adding photos in addition to grant information as we go along.
We are all excited about the implementation of this new program and new online services to the
campus—Please come by and visit the Title V Office to see the BIG, Fantastic Year 1 Strategy Timeline
poster that Lisa Maue created for us—you can see where we are on Objectives at any time!
