June 2015
Title V Staff members continue to focus on Year 1 Grant Objectives:
1) (To) Develop a Wildland Fire Science AAS/Certificate; and
2) (To) Develop new Online Admissions and Registration systems, to include Online Advisement.
From the Project Manager:
Title V Staff members welcome AnneMarie Kalama to the campus as the new Project Manager for the
TAACCCT Sun Path Grant. That grant and the Title V Grant are both charged with the development of
1st Year courses for the EMS program, so we will be working together in that endeavor in fall 2015. The
Title V Staff looks forward to working with Annie!
We are especially excited about the ordering of the All Hazards Simtable, which is in the processing
stage, and we plan to have a presentation of its many functions in early fall.
The transition of Online Services, developed by the grant, has gone smoothly with the addition of
Cindy Holder as Director of Student Services—what a great experience this has been to develop online
services and turn them over to the Institution for operation!
we are working with the President and the VPSL to line up WFS courses with the Institution’s efforts to
create a Pathway for students to follow to make selection of courses for the Certificate/AAS concise and
clear.
HR has placed the Title V EMS position on the ENMU-Ruidoso website as well as running it with
HigherEdjobs.com. That is a Year 2 Grant position, and the start date for this employee will be 10-1-15,
as per the grant.
Development of the WFS Program (Sara Karabelski and Rich Dolphin):
Ordering Supplies and Equipment is nearing the end, which is exciting for all of us! We are now focused
on completing implementation of courses into BlackBoard with Quality Matters, as per the grant.
Rich Dolphin (Wildland Fire Fighting Specialist) has completed the schedule for fall classes, and those
classes will open for registration as soon as start/end dates are finalized. Title V staff will oversee online
advising for the WFS Program, and the Credit for Prior Learning Crosswalk is complete for catalog and
advising purposes.
We have completed further QM training on accessibility and have also completed our first QM course
review. Thanks to Amy Bertramsen and Kimberly Wills for their support of the program
development. Thanks also to Tonia Ashby and Sheila Farquer for their support in the purchasing process
this grant year.
Development of Online Services (Juanita Garcia):
The successful transfer of developed Online Services to Student Services personnel to operate enables us
to now focus on data collection and surveys to assess the services. In regard to Live Chat, we will
continue to troubleshoot and resolve issues by working with Jim Weinman (IS); Live Help Now
consultants; and the Director of Student Services. We also continue to monitor and further develop data
processes through collaboration with Amy Betramsen (IR). Phase II of the online admissions application
is now in progress, and the Workflow component, which is an added feature of Banner, is under
development. Workflow is a flexible management software that automates, simplifies, and directs the flow
of information across the entire institution. This component can improve processes that support how the
institution works; can deliver improved customer service to staff, students, and faculty; and can complete
important tasks more quickly and efficiently. This project would not be possible without the collaboration
of the ENMU-Ruidoso Workflow Team. A special “Thank You” goes out to the project team leaders
(Amy Bertramsen, Tonia Ashby, Jim Weinman, Cindy Holder, and Trish Pascale) for making this project
possible. The development of Wildland Fire Science Program and Wildland Fire Science Advising
webpages are under development and will be added to the webpages in July. Consultants for the
Mobile-Friendly pages and the MyENMU Portal page are working on new upgrades to reflect
ENMU-Ruidoso information. Students will have Mobile-Friendly icons to access direct information, and
the MyENMU Portal page will reflect ENMU-Ruidoso information instead of seeing Portales
information. Again, a Special thanks to Jim Weinman for his assistance in online services projects.
As always, the Title V Office door is open if you should want to drop by and visit any of us about the
grant.
Kathryn Keen, Title V Project Manager, on behalf of the Title V Staff:
