Dear Student Employee of the Year Selection Committee,
I hope that you will accept this essay of nomination for {Student Name} as Student Employee of
the Year. I mistakenly marked my calendar with a due date of today for this essay and missed
yesterday's deadline. But, the excellence of our nominee compels me to send this essay in
hopes that he will be considered as a worthy candidate and not exempt from consideration of
this recognition due to my mix-up!
{Student Name} has worked in the Theatre office of the Department of Music & Theatre as a
student worker for 2 years and it is an honor that we nominate him in his final semester with us
as a graduating senior. Since his arrival at Prairie View A&M University, I have had
the opportunity to witness {Student Name} grow into a confident, mature young man and a
natural leader whose work ethic and integrity helps motivate other students in our department
to be their best. He has all the admirable qualities of someone with clear career goals and
strives to use his time at PVAMU to make those goals a reality.
In the Theatre Program there is not a full-time administrative assistant; therefore, often,
{Student Name} does more work than the average student worker. Always dependable and
organized, {Student Name}’s passion for office work and departmental representation is
remarkable and very necessary for the university setting to yield positive results. His interest in
Arts Administration drives him to use his work-study position as an opportunity to develop skills
useful for his desired career. So, in addition to office assistant duties, {Student Name} is often
the first point of contact for prospective students, office visitors, guests/audiences for
department performances and a key aid to activities such as Pantherland Day, Preview Days,
Department Auditions and High School Matinee performances. His work in these larger service
and recruitment-based university activities is indispensable. Now in his senior year and final
weeks as a student worker in our department, he stays committed to his role while also
focusing on training younger student workers to take on his position and to recognize the
benefits of the student employment experience beyond simply that of a "work-study job."
{Student Name} is always punctual and even arrives early many days to ensure that the day
goes as planned or make any necessary adjustments. He is always well groomed and
appropriately dressed. Even though the students are his peers, he maintains a professional
demeanor while keeping an excellent rapport with them and is well respected as a student
mentor. {Student Name} upbeat demeanor and "can-do" attitude brightens the office with his
presence and supports a very busy faculty that has come to rely on his assistance. His strong
human relations skills enable him to interface very effectively with many different types and
various personalities of students and faculty with kindness, professionalism, patience, efficiency
and effectiveness. His strong verbal and written communications skills allow him to relay
information in a clear and coherent manner.
{Student Name} is a not only a hard worker; but he is also an excellent student and very diligent
in his course work--maintaining a 3.5 GPA while working and serving in multiple areas and
activities on campus and in his community. Besides being a student worker, he is the president
of the PVAMU Charles Gilpin Players, a member of the PVAMU Honors Program, involved in the
Arts Ministry at his church, works as Theatre Contest Manager for University Interscholastic
League (UIL) ran through University of Texas at Austin and as a Stage Management Intern for a
professional theatre company. {Student Name} is the student that many of us wish we had
been in college!
Quite simply, we are beyond impressed with this outstanding young man and give him our
strongest recommendation for roles which require intelligence, organization, communication
skills, service and a positive attitude. Please feel free to contact me and/or any member of the
Theatre Program, if you need additional information or perspective.
