Position: Director, Central Wisconsin Environmental Station (CWES)

Position Description: The successful candidate for this position will provide leadership in the
accomplishment of the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station's (CWES) Goals and Strategic Plan
including the development of additional intramural and extramural relationships, direct CWES's day-to-day
operations including personnel, budget, and facilities management and maintenance. The successful
candidate will also continue to develop and promote CWES as a natural resources education, teaching, and
learning center, supervise CWES staff in the development, instruction, and marketing of environmental and
nature-based educational programs, coordinate with on-campus faculty and staff regarding the College of
Natural Resources' (CNR) Summer Field Experience and other credit and non-credit offerings as well as
instruct CNR Environmental Education courses and coordinate with CNR representative to the UWSP
Development Office in support of CWES fund-raising initiatives.
Department/University Description: CWES is a 200-acre teaching and learning center located 17 miles
east of Stevens Point on glacial Sunset Lake. The station includes six cabins, two lodges, one dining facility,
one maintenance building, two bathhouses, a store, and four additional classroom spaces. The station
houses the Tomorrow River Community Charter School for pre-K through 6th grade. CWES's professional
staff has been providing youth and adult programming since 1975, averaging over 30,000 user days in 2015.
Programming includes a practical teaching experience for UWSP students, a field techniques summer
course, environmental education experiences for elementary, middle and high school aged students, their
teachers and chaperones, and summer camps for youth (ages 6-17) and families. In addition, weekend
workshops, conferences, retreats and a PreK-6 grade charter school are hosted year-round. CWES is a field
station of the College of Natural Resources (CNR), UWSP, one of the largest comprehensive natural
resources undergraduate programs in North America. The CNR has approximately 1,700 undergraduates,
60 graduate students, and over 130 faculty and staff. The College supports undergraduate natural resource
programs with disciplines in Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management, Fisheries and Water
Resources, Forestry, Soil and Waste Resources, Wildlife Ecology, and the Department of Paper Science
and Engineering.
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, part of the University of Wisconsin System, is a leading

Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s degree in Natural Resources or a related field (e.g., Natural Resource Management,
Environmental Education, Environmental Science, Recreation , Biology, Ecology) with five (5) years of
Post-graduate experience OR Ph.D./Ed.D. in Natural Resources or related field and minimum of three (3)
years post graduate experience.
- Experience in budget preparation and management.
- Experience supervising personnel and managing multiple personnel transactions in a variety of working
situations.
- Experience with public or private funding via grants, fund-raising, and revenue-generating operations.
Preferred:
- Experience managing an off-campus, residential field facility including:
(a) Supervision and management of food service operations
(b) Supervision and management of overnight accommodations.
(c) Supervision and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment.
(d) Supervision and maintenance of facilities.
- Experience in developing, marketing, and evaluating educational and outreach programming
- Experience in formal and informal instruction
- Leadership experience at a residential summer camp
Appointment Date: July 2016
Terms of Employment: This is a 12-month, full-time limited staff appointment.
