Position: Assistant Professor of Special Education

Hayes Hill Title: Assistant Professor (C40NN)
Position Description: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in special education using a
cross-categorical model. In addition, the position may include: (a) course development and
instruction in introduction to special education, assessment, curriculum, methodology, managing
learning environments, and working with teams and families for teachers of students with
disabilities ages 6 through 21 years; (b) nurturing collaborative partnerships with regional
educators and schools; (c) advising and mentoring university students; (d) service to the
department, college, university, and community; and (e) research, scholarly, and/or creative
activity. This individual must contribute to nurturing an environment that is respectful and
collegial, and must teach for pluralism and success for all students.
Department/University Description:
The School of Education is located within the College of Professional Studies. We offer
undergraduate majors in Elementary, Early Childhood, Special Education, and Physical Education
to approximately 600 students. We also offer teacher certification for approximately 800
secondary education majors. We have a growing graduate program at the masters level, and are
developing a pioneering EdD in Educational Sustainability.

Qualifications:
Required:
-
Earned doctorate in special education or related field (ABD will be considered; doctorate
must be completed before the second annual review)
Minimum of three years’ teaching experience in PK-12 public or private schools
Experience and training in special education
Preferred:
-
Experience with college-level instruction and online instruction
Experience in inclusive and/or collaborative settings
Appointment Date: August 29, 2016 or shortly thereafter, or January 16, 2017 or shortly thereafter
Terms of Employment: This is a 9-month, academic year staff appointment, with opportunities for
additional work during winterim (January) and summer terms. Duties may also include teaching
courses and non-credit offerings on evenings, weekends, and/or off-campus settings.
Tenure-track, assistant professor. Salary based on qualifications and experience.
