Specialist

Position Summary:

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is a primary service at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station (CWES). This position is responsible for general facilities and maintenance. In the summer, CWES serves undergraduate students during a field experience course, and then serves youth ages 6-17 for residential camps Sunday-Friday. During the school year, CWES serves visiting school groups, adult contract groups, and an on-site charter school. The position will provide excellent service and respond to maintenance needs in an efficient and customer-friendly manner. The position will play a critical role within the CWES team as it will provide feedback to department managers on maintenance needs and facility upkeep strategies and work plans.

Goal: Miscellaneous maintenance of mechanical equipment

Analyze deficiencies to maintenance equipment, repair as needed

Perform period inspections of mechanical equipment and pumps, generators, air compressors, water heaters and water softeners

Respond to after-hours emergency calls from CWES Director

Collect and keep updated maintenance logs sheets

5 Work with CWES Director and University staff on CWES building and remodeling projects

Maintain washers, dryers, food service and custodial equipment

Inspect, test and maintain fire extinguishers

Schedule, manage and supervise other maintenance personnel and student workers

Perform minor automotive maintenance and repair

10 Install and winterize CWES waterfront including piers, swim raft, swim ropes, and minor boat engine repair

11 Perform miscellaneous work as assigned

General Facility Repair

Repair basic plumbing problems, faucets, flush valves, urinals, and toilets.

General work including carpentry, concrete, plumbing, electrical mechanical.

Develop awareness of asbestos on plumbing and steam lines, and take proper steps in containing and reporting damaged asbestos.

Performance of preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment

Clean coils for heating and cooling equipment periodically

Change hat and cooling equipment filters periodically

Snow Removal on roads and pathways, including sand spreading

Clean classrooms, bath houses, and other buildings

Paint and stain buildings and fences.

Mowing, weed shipping, and other seasonal duties on grounds

Spread woodchips and patch gravel roads as needed

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 5 years cleaning/maintenance experience required.

• Strong customer service skills.

• Experience supervising others.

• Ability to develop a thorough understanding of University of Wisconsin and UWSP administrative policies / procedures.

• Understanding of the University & department environment, its mission, and operational needs.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and flexibility.

• Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with supervisors and managers, staff, coworkers, campus staff, and interact positively with service providers outside the university.

• Ability to organize and manage competing demands and priorities.

• Creative, flexible, self-motivated, and quality oriented.

• Ability to work on three shifts including weekends, holidays, on-call and emergencies.

• Ability to maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license (regular, Class D License).
