Des Moines Register 01-08-07 ISU to host Kennedy Center fest Iowa State University will host part of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival from Jan. 21-27. More than 1,800 college students and faculty members from across the Midwest are expected to attend the festival's Region V events in Ames. The festival includes a series of acting workshops, competitions, displays and performances of both original and traditional plays. Events will be held on campus — at Stephens Auditorium, Fisher Theater, the Maintenance Shop in the Memorial Union — and the Ames City Auditorium downtown. Students from the University of Kansas, Minnesota State University, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Wichita State University, the University of NebraskaLincoln, Wartburg College and Emporia State are scheduled to present plays. In addition to the student productions, professional actor Karen Eterovich will present a one-woman show, “Cheer from Chawton: A Jane Austen Family Theatrical.” “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and faculty to observe productions from other universities and see what types of shows they are doing,” said Jane Cox, director of ISU Theatre and the regional festival’s host. “Every participant should be inspired to an even higher level of creativity in the performing arts.”
