Mrs. Pack’s Fridge Facts October27-October 31 Phonics Our Phonics focus this week is r-controlled (-er, -ir, -ur) words. Your child should complete three of the spelling activities from their green folder. Parents, please be sure to sign the Navigator guide each day. Writing/Grammar: Reading: Our story this week is “Scarcity”. This is an expository text about how people can work together to meet people’s needs. Our comprehension focus will be on facts and details. Our new vocabulary words are: consumers producers strand lack decision fiber extraordinary typical High-Frequency Words: Above, ago, enough, toward, whole, word This week our focus is on singular and plural nouns. Students should know that a singular noun is a word that names one person, place, animal, or thing. A plural noun names more than one person, place, animal, or thing. Habit of the Week: Synergize “Involve people in the problem and work out the solution together.” ~ Stephen Covey Math We are finishing up Topic 5 this week- Place Value to 100. In this topic, we used models for tens and ones, read and wrote numbers and used symbols to compare the numbers. We worked on identifying 10 more and 10 less than any number up to 100. We also learned how to identify numbers as even or odd. This week we will begin Topic 6Mental Addition. We will also discuss how and why people work together. Reminders Red Ribbon Week: Monday – wear RED to celebrate the kick off of Red Ribbon Week- Theme- : LOVE yourself be Drug FREE Tuesday – “Sock It To Drugs!” Wear Crazy Socks- roll those pants up so everyone can see what you stand for.
